Jane's Carousel news from Board Member Jane Walentas ’66

As is traditional, I’d like to share the events and triumphs of the past year at Jane’s Carousel. We are so happy to have fully recovered from Hurricane Sandy and since the recovery have had an amazing and exciting year with more “ups than downs”.

Our most recent exciting news is that Conde Nast Traveler Magazine named us a New York, New Tradition along with the Tree at Rockefeller Center, and the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center! Needless to say, we are thrilled!

Last summer many of you voted and helped us win the Red Tricycle Totally Awesome Award. Thank you for that! Also totally awesome is the Carousel prominently featured in the stunning new book "Design Brooklyn" by Anne Hellman and Michel Arnaud.

On a daily basis, the horses continue to be loved, ridden by more than 350,000 riders in 2013 and at least that many others who just stop by to say hello and take photos. Last spring at the close of the school year, we welcomed hundreds of school children and offered them affordable discounted rides.

We have hosted at least 200 Childrens’ Birthday Parties, as well as some fun, very grown up celebrations. The Carousel has become an increasingly popular venue for all things romantic: Wedding Ceremonies, Engagement and Anniversary Parties, and even a few pre-arranged marriage proposal rides!

We were fortunate this year to have hosted two extraordinarily glamorous and successful corporate events. The Carousel was chosen as the venue for Vanity Fair’s “At The Table” dinner to celebrate the magazine’s 100th Anniversary and Dwell Magazine chose the Carousel to host their first “Vision Awards” Event.

We continue to enjoy good press from around the world and are the chosen location for prestigious photo shoots such as Vogue’s August cover story, a Lexus commercial, Paula Lobo Dance Documentary, Spider Man /Columbia Pictures, Vogue Sposa (Italian Bride’s Magazine), Axe Hair Products, and a Levi Strauss film. Additionally, the Carousel has appeared in many US and International TV shows.

In addition to our successes, we are proud that we continue to be generous with our friends and neighbors and gladly donate Carousel tickets for their special events.

After having limped through last winter’s difficulties—we are grateful to have rebounded and have much to show for our renewed energy and spirit.

The Carousel staff and I continue to work very hard to make Jane’s Carousel a very special, fun and beautiful place to visit. We wish everyone a very Happy Holiday and the best of everything in the coming year. Be sure to come by for a ride!

Very best wishes,
Jane
