I had a wide range of responsibilities at the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy. I assisted with the opening of a new gallery in Philadelphia City Hall. I worked on research for upcoming conservation projects, digging through files at the Historical Society and the Historic Commission, as well as helping to design a new walking tour of the sculpture around City Hall.
I really had no idea prior to my internship the importance of public art in making a city livable. I no longer walk past sculptures or murals without thinking about how that particular piece fits into the site it was placed or the community around it.
I’ve made some really key contacts at my internship that I think will be helpful if I’m able to stay in Philadelphia. Internships are really key for building a network of people to reach out to in the future.
