How financial aid eligibility is determined:

The Financial Aid Office will use the information submitted on your FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal student loans. You will receive a financial aid award letter or email advising you of the amount you can borrow each semester and annually. Graduate Fellowship awards are determined by the graduate program.
Most students who qualify for federal student aid can borrow through the Federal Direct Loan program. Students who have financial need will be offered the Federal Direct Subsidized** Loan. Students without need or whose need has been met through other resources will be offered the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Students who need additional financing, can apply for a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. The Graduate PLUS Loan is not guaranteed like the Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans; students must be credit approved to borrow. The amount a student can borrow annually (fall/spring/summer) is listed below.
  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loan: $8,500**
  • $20,500 maximum per academic year or $30,750 Borrow Based year**
  • Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan: varies (cost of attendance minus other financial aid)
*Tuition and fees are subject to change annually prior to the summer term.
** Borrow Based year may allow for an additional Unsubsidized Loan of $10,250 but a Graduate PLUS Loan must first be considered & credit denied
